Artist :: Oscar Hvala / Combo

Melbourne, Australia

He is the vocalist and acoustic guitar player of the acoustic duo, COMBO performing contemporary covers of popular numbers and also original songs.

He has also performed as a solo vocalist over time, entertaining many with numbers from the “crooner” era of Sinatra, Martin and most recently, Michael Buble with the occasional musical theatre track from some of the most popular Broadway shows.

Where it Began and over time ….

Starting at the age of 7, his musical career began playing the accordion at Lou Toppano School of Music in the late 60’s.
During the many years leading up to his early 20’s, he developed himself vocally with many of the popular numbers well into the 70’s.
With his musical career taking a “back seat” for a while due to work, business and family commitments, he regained his passion for music in the year 2000, by developing the necessary guitar skills under his own tutelage.

In 2008, he became and currently retains membership to Weekend Warriors Victoria, a gathering of musicians previously organised by the Allans/Billy Hyde franchise.
It was during this time that his music couch Bob Spencer (former guitarist of The Angels and Skyhooks), provided the encouragement to seek out ways of developing his skills once again as a vocalist.

Musical Influences

Influences are many and varied…. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Rat Pack of Sinatra, Martin, Sammy Davis, Tom Jones, Clapton, KISS, AC/DC, performers before, during and after these listed are only but a few.

In short, whatever sounds good and provides a great “feeling”, is OK by him.

Musical styles are also just as wide and varied with rock, blues, jazz, musical theatre and the classical overtures colouring his appreciation of many a musical genre.
With the above in mind, his musical perspective provides a steady platform from which to influence and create musical pleasure well into the future.
