Claiming Valhalla was conceived in the summer of 2014 as a solo project and concept by musician Brett Sim. Hailing from Victoria, Australia and after years of playing in bands and recording various EP’s, Brett decided to record a 5 track EP of songs he had written and amassed over the past few years. This EP eventually turned into a full length 12 track LP with two songs from the album being filmed and produced as music videos.
Claiming Valhalla is a mix of Alternative Rock, Grunge, Nu-Metal and Symphonic Metal. Influences include Nirvana, Korn, Within Temptation, Evanescence, Two Steps from Hell, A Perfect Circle, Seether, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Flowing Tears, The National, Linkin Park, Fuel and many more.
In Claiming Valhalla, along with writing all the songs, music and lyrics, Brett plays, writes and composes all the guitars, bass, piano and drum arrangements. On the current songs Domenic Pernasilici from Audio Visual Media is credited for playing and arranging the piano and strings, along with contributing to the drum arrangements as well. Domenic also recorded all of the songs to date.
Two music videos have been produced by Jordan Parisi of Trumpkard Films, “Cold” and “Anywhere But Home” and can be found here or on YouTube.Claiming Valhalla’s music is a mix of extremes from soft piano and strings arrangements to thundering down tuned 7-string guitars. Each song tells a story and the LP is a concept album that tells a story of one’s own personal darkness and loss, depression and despair to ultimately seeking redemption.
