R&B enthusiast, record collector, Hammond organist, Ace Face Mod, piss artist and unrepentant Country music tragic, Marsden Williams (The Sterlings / Melbourne City Ska Collective / Problem) has written at least fourteen Country Soul masterpieces, seven of which he will play with his sympathetic sympathisers, longtime co-writers and collaborators, including:
Mark Di Marzio,. The Australian Rolling Stones show, Mister d's blues combo, Andre Camilleri band, Stu Thomas & Mike Noga, Doghouse with Nique Needles & Delaney Davidson
Matt Palmer (The Sterlings / Raw Nerves / Shane's County)
Bede Swindon (Mineral Sands / 245T /The Sterlings)
Cut from the same school of Tuff R&B as his heroes, Winwood, Marriott and Stewart, a deep appreciation of Americana, Vaudeville and the Country Blues stylings of The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Lane, Ramblin Jack Elliott and Jerry Reed, a strong element of country soul has pervaded his earliest works in the hard rocking Sterlings. Marsden says, "I can't help making country music, I'm so damn good at!". The lifetime of songwriting has given way to meticulous songcrafting, with a magpies ear for a melody, deep seated black dog and and even sneakier idea for a hook or a nagging phrase and Melbourne's best and most dedicated musicians to stop things going off the rails, Marsden has been fortunate enough to follow his singular vision wherever it has taken him.
